I have set up this blog as part of a mad idea that I had today when I found myself with a spare copy of the Tom Clancy thriller 'The Hunt for Red October'. I have read the novel many times, it is a cracking good read and it is a favourite of mine. You might not have read the book before, although you have probably seen the movie version that was made in 1990, starring Sean Connery and Alec Baldwin. The film was excellent too, again, a big favourite of mine.
So I have this copy of THFRO, and I didn't know what to do with it. I could donate it to a charity shop, or sell it online, but I thought of something more fun. It's something I have seen done on other websites with many books; I'd like to do it with just this one.
I'm going to leave 'The Hunt For Red October' lying around somewhere, in a café or something. And let somebody else find it and read it (and hopefully enjoy it). And then, hopefully, that person will leave it lying around somewhere and someone ELSE will find it. And so on. And, just as the Red October herself set out on that long and lonely voyage to the United States, hopefully this one small paperback book will travel the world and entertain all those who find it.
Now on to the important stuff....
You found the book- what next?
Step 1: Read (and hopefully enjoy)
Step 2: Leave the book in a public place where it can be found by someone else. Try to avoid outdoor places where the book can be exposed to wind, rain etc, and try to avoid leaving it near second-hand bookshops, charity shops etc. The book is NOT be sold, it is to be distributed freely in the manner intended by myself. This disclaimer will be written inside the book in case it should end up in the hands of a book dealer etc.
Step 3: E-mail me at: the.vilnius.schoolmaster@googlemail.com and tell me your name, where you are from, where you found the book and where you left it. If you would like to say what you thought of the book then that's fine too, also I'd love some photos of the book near famous places/landmarks!
Step 4: Follow the book's progress on this very site.
